Great Baby Product: KidCo DreamPod® Travel Bassinet

I just packed up our bassinet for MAYBE the final time. I'm hanging on to it for a year or so in case it comes in handy for travel or weekends at the lake house. Having used it for two babies, I can confidently tell you that this KidCo DreamPod travel bassinet is one of THE BEST pieces of baby "equipment" we owned. As I have a few friends who still have babies ahead of them in life, I thought it might be worthwhile to share why I love this thing.

1. Safe

The AAP recommends room sharing with your baby for the first year. I'm not going to mislead you... My husband and I can't make it past 4 months before we NEED our bedroom back. But for those four months, we have to use a safe sleep surface for the baby. This bassinet is great because it has a flat and even surface with a tight fitted sheet (provided), and mesh sides to prevent any breathing hazards.

2. Portable

It is super lightweight which makes it easy to take to other locations... And I don't just mean to Grandma's house. One of the things we have done to help get our babies to differentiate between "day" and "night" as quickly as possible is to have the bassinet in the living room during the day. Television, bright lights, screaming toddlers... It is definitely an "active" daytime environment. This bassinet is so lightweight it is no trouble to move it between the living room and our bedroom on a daily basis. Aside from that aspect, it also FOLDS UP. This is amazing for both travel and for storage. It doesn't take up nearly the space that many other bassinets do.

3. Long-Lasting

Compared to many other bassinets that I have seen, this one has a larger sleep surface. I like this because it means we can use it for a full year without the baby outgrowing it or it being restrictive to movement. So far, I haven't had any quality issues either. You can wash the sheet, and the rest is easy to wipe clean. There's a built in plastic pocket to keep the folding/unfolding instructions so even if there are years between uses, you can easily remind yourself how to work the thing.

DISCLAIMER:

In the header above you'll see a picture of the exact model I have. I managed to snag one on Zulily for less than $100 (I think I paid $80-ish) when they were retailing for $160. I see that KidCo has updated their travel bassinet to a newer model. Not having used the exact new model, I can't for certain speak to whether it holds up to my review. But based on how much I do love mine, I'd say it's still worth considering.
